There is a broad spectrum of medical staffing and healthcare recruitment agencies. The first of which being the local independent recruiter that typically works out of their home. Their placement fees are on the lower end of the spectrum making these independent recruiters quite attractive to someone looking to hire a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Registered Nurse. The local independent recruiter is generally easy to get hold of and frequently has great customer service but routinely has limited resources in the world of recruiting. They aren’t going to have a vast database of candidates at their disposal to screen and they tend to rely on conventional methods of sourcing candidates such as placing online ads waiting for candidates to contact them. They place these ads on the same websites you post to as well as quite a few that you didn’t even know existed. Unfortunately if you haven’t heard of these recruiting websites, neither have a lot of qualified candidates. Although the low placement fees are very enticing, if the independent recruiter doesn’t present any viable candidates, the result is a medical position that still needs to be filled.

 

Next, you have the large nationwide recruiting agencies who have vast resources but seem to outgrow the local “mom and pop” feel that contributed to their success. Their placement fees are substantial, some would say exorbitant, but in fairness they do have considerable costs in sourcing candidates. As a general rule, you won’t see them post an ad for your position on the common websites that you post your open positions on. They should already have candidates to reach out to and screen for your position. There are always going to be medical positions that are hard to fill but as a general rule, the large nationwide recruiting agencies are going to find more candidates for their recruiters to present your opportunity to therefore giving them a better chance of filling the healthcare position for you.
